The selection menu is activated by default, however it only appears when selectable objects are configured in NPGeoMap.
Further down in this chapter you find some useful tips & tricks on selecting.
Note, that there is a difference between marking and selecting - first step is to just mark the objects and areas in NPGeoMap (by using this menu or the Keyboard Shortcuts), second step is to confirm and actually run the selection and reduce the data in the application.
The menu is divided in the following four sections (from right to left):

This flip switch only appears, if configured in the Expert-Settings. It allows to switch between default selection mode (gray/inactive) and toggle selection mode (blue/active).
|
oToggle selection - same selection dynamics as in Qlik Sense:
Objects are added to or removed from the selection like turning them on or off. If objects are marked, which haven't been selected yet, they will be added to the current selection. If objects are marked, which are already part of the current selection, they will be removed from it.
As always, selecting the last remaining object again clears the selection (this applies for both selection modes). oDefault selection - same selection dynamics as in QlikView:
Marked objects are selected, all others not. To see which of the two modes is active in the object, even if the flip switch isn't displayed, the green OK button (see entry below) changes and shows a small plus sign in toggle mode (see screenshot).

This "OK-Button" confirms the marking and triggers the selection.
When selecting with Keyboard Shortcuts this button is not needed - the selection will be triggered by releasing the keys.
Clicking the simple OK button (upper one in the image on the left) confirms a default selection, clicking the one with a small plus sign (lower one in the image on the left) confirms a toggle selection (see definition above).

Single Selection
This button enables the single selection. Several dynamic objects like Markers, Polygons, Radial Spheres or even Legend Segments can be marked by clicking on them (or tapping with the finger on touchscreen devices).
Trigger the selection by confirming with the OK-Button.
If only one item is left, selecting it again will cause a "Clear" of all selections (like in QlikView). (Note, that Clustermarkers usually contain several Markers - a "Clear" will only be triggered, if actually only one Marker is left.)
Keyboard Shortcut: Alternatively you can hold Ctrl + Shift to mark single objects. Releasing the keys triggers the selection.
If you really want to select only one object, just double click/tap on it. (The double click speed can be configured in the Expert Settings)

Combine us!
You can switch between and before confirming with to combine single and multi selection.
|
|
Multi Selection
This drop down button includes all tools for multiple selections. Choosing a tool enables the multi selection mode.
In active mode you can combine several shapes to mark areas and objects on your map. Just draw them with the mouse (or your fingers an a touchscreen device). It's even possible to move the drawn shapes, if they don't fit properly.
Trigger the selection by confirming with the OK-Button.
The following selection types are available:

Selection Layer
This drop down menu shows all layers containing selectable objects in the respective NPGeoMap application. Choose a Layer before confirming with the OK-Button .
For a better overview in big applications, the layers are grouped (Marker, Maps, ...). When there are various Markers in the application the menu offers an "extra Layer" called "All Marker Objects", which allows to select all different Marker types (like Dynamic Markers, Simple Markers, ...) at once.
In the Expert Settings a custom name can be configured for each layer. These captions will be displayed here in the Selection Menu, as well as in the Layerswitcher.

Tips & Tricks on Selecting
This is a short list with smart and useful details about selecting in NPGeoMap:
|
Most important: Combination
Combine Single and Multi Selection and the various marking shapes!
You can switch between and before confirming with the OK-Button to combine single and multi selection. Before confirming you can also combine the various selection types in the multi selection box.
This is also possible when using the keyboard shortcuts - hold control key for multi selection, hold additionally the shift key for single selection, release only the shift key to multi select again and confirm everything by releasing all keys.
Combine, switch, move around the drawn shapes, remark single selections by clicking again on them ... and when you're finished click the OK-Button (respectively release keys) or cancel everything by clicking again on or - try it!

|
Selection is always additional - that means if you select or mark in areas which already have been selected or marked, the objects will be just selected or marked again, instead of deselecting or remarking them.
Example: Marker A, B and C are already selected. Now Marker A is marked again - the selection will be reduced to Marker A. (Marker B and C won't be displayed anymore.)
You can change the selection mode to "toggle" - see more in the Expert Settings.
|
|
Selecting the last remaining object again clears the selection.
|
|
To cancel the selection just click again on or - the markings clear and no selection will be made.
|
|
Either Markers or Polygons
When using single selection you have to choose to either mark/select Markers or Polygons, as they may exclude each other.
(The multi selection mode requires a selection layer, shown in the drop down box on the left.)
|
|
Partly marked - what will be selected?
Markers will be selected, if the center is marked.
Polygons will be selected, if at least 65% of its outline points (coordinates) are within the marking. Note that this includes the points of islands and "holes" in Polygons.
Lines and Paths see below.
|
|
Selecting Lines and Paths
There are two types of selecting: "intersect" and "enclose".
For the first one it is sufficient to just touch the Line or a part of the Path with the marking to select it. The enclose type requires that all points of the Path (or the two points of a Line) are within the marking.
|
|
Intersection of Radial Spheres (Circles)
You can use Radial Spheres as a selection tool to make intersection selections. Therefore just select the respective Radial Spheres each after another.
Example: Intersection of two Radial Spheres (that could be a radius around two branches selecting costumers) - first mark one of the circles and confirm the selection. Now only the Markers (customers) in this circle are selected. Then mark the second circle and again confirm the selection. Now only the Markers (customers) which are in the second circle as well are left.
|
|
Performance
There is basically one performance rule - the fewer points are created with the drawn shapes when marking, the faster the selection.
That means single selection or multi selection with Rectangle (has only 4 points) is the fastest. Also the Mulitpoint is faster than the Freehand selection type, but Freehand is easier to use on touchscreen devices.
|
|
Even Legend Segments can be selected - either with a double click to select a single one, or holding Ctrl + Shift or using the Selection Menu to select several segments. Of course it can be combined with selections of other items on the map.
